2004
The ninth Air Guitar World Championships and its network of
international qualifying competitions once again brought a
large number of foreign contestants and media representatives
to Oulu. Six dark horses from the Oulu qualification faced the
national champions of ten countries in the final. US Champion
MiRi “Sonyk-R.O.K.” Park took home a Flying Finn guitar and an
amplifier signed by Brian May. After a blooper in the score
calculation was revealed, the Championship was divided and the
prizes were also sent to New Zealand Champion Tarquin “The
Tarkness” Keys. Also the groups The Flaming Sideburns and
Lordi performed on the Kuusisaari stage.
The training camp was arranged in the spirits of the Olympic
year at Virpiniemi Sports College. The lecture topics included
for example the various schools of the Air Guitar as well as
publicity management.
