The Air Guitar World Championships were arranged for the seventh time and, with the number of participants still growing, the event was expanded over two days. This year the Oulu Music Video Festival granted qualifying licenses to four countries. The winners of the national competitions participated in the final directly, but other aspiring champions took part in a qualifying competition arranged at Rock Club 45 Special. The Championships climaxed in the final in Kuusisaari, Oulu, on Friday 23 August. The competition was extremely tight, and the Championship went to Englishman Zac "Mr Magnet" Monro for the second time running. The prestigious jury was again  chaired by guitar legend Juha Torvinen who was accompanied by Sonata Arctica guitarist Jani Liimatainen.

In accordance with true sportsmanship, the air guitar players were also offered the opportunity to participate in a last-minute high altitude training camp. The camp included for example lectures on "Air Guitar and Zen" and "How to maintain your instrument".
