2001
News about the Air Guitar World Championships spread widely in the international media. In January, Time Magazine listed the Air Guitar World Championships as one of the most important news events in 2001. The interest of foreign media and competitors toward the competition increased by leaps and bounds. The venue was changed from the market place to the legendary location of Kuusisaari, and several foreign and domestic film crews as well as numerous foreign reporters were present. For the first time the Championship escaped from the hands of Finns: the winner came from Great Britain. London architect Zac "Mr Magnet" Monro charmed the jury and the audience alike. Also this year the jury was chaired by guitar legend Juha Torvinen, with Chief Editor Markku Veijalainen as the second judge.
